New Feminist Research/ Book Reviews
volume 26 numbers 3 and 4

This double issue of RFR combines both book reviews and new feminist research. Over thirty reviews cover a wide range of feminist topics, from the Japanese Canadian internment camps of the Second World War, to the stories of seven Cree grandmothers, from one woman's experience of menopause, to a reflection on sexism, racism and difference. The critical review essays explore women and AIDS, methods of accessing historical/archival material on women, and a critique of Évelyne Sullerot's Quel pères? Quels fils? In the section "New Feminist Research," articles include Barbara Godard's look at Canadian literature(s), and Anissa Hélie's exploration of the absence of women in the history of colonization, particularly as taught by teachers in colonial Algeria. Aniko Varpalotai surveys the Girl Guides of Canada and its organizational response to recent challenges to its women-only policy and Jacqueline Martin considers the connections between social movements and research, more specifically the women's movement and feminist studies, in France between 1970 and 1990. This issue also includes the annual subject/author index for volume 22 (1993) of the journal, plus abstracts of Canadian feminist periodicals published in 1993
